      • Product Description: Compilation of Hans Christian Anderson's much-loved fairy tales.

Hans Christian Andersen was born in Denmark on April 2, 1805, and trained for a career on the stage before he became a writer. During his lifetime he achieved international success as a playwright and novelist, but it is his fairytales that are still read and loved by children and adults around the globe today. Among his many widely beloved stories are The Little Match Girl, The Ugly Duckling, The Snow Queen, and The Little Mermaid. Andersen died in 1875, but his name now lives on in one of the most sought-after awards in children's literature: the Hans Christian Andersen Medal.

Lisbeth Zwerger, one of the world's most acclaimed children's book illustrators, is well known for illustrating classic tales. She has brought her brush to The Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, and The Nutcracker, as well as many Grimm Brothers fairytales. Her work is both captivating and lyrical, and always filled with a sense of whimsy. Ms. Zwerger has won numerous awards for her work, including the prestigious Hans Christian Andersen Medal, presented to her in 1990 to recognize her lifetime contribution to children's literature.

Colour throughout, reinforced binding with gold foil stamping on jacket.
