Kawphyrite Earthenware Vase (Limited Edition)

Item No.

      • Product Description: To celebrate 'The Cult of Beauty: The Aesthetic Movement 1860-1900', Dennis Chinaworks have created a limited series of new work for the V&A, focusing on the Aesthetic Interior, in particular the designs of Edwin William Godwin (1833-1886).

The late 19th and early 20th century Aesthetic Movement is a key influence on Dennis Chinaworks, founded by Richard Dennis and Sally Tuffin. Previously design director of Moorcroft, and one half of 1960's fashion and design brand Foale and Tuffin, Sally's style is richly decorative, the work beautifully made. The pottery is made from earthenware, spun with colour, then decorated by incising and slip trailing the designs. Further colour is added using underglazes and natural oxides, pots are finished with a clear glaze.

Our ' Kawphyrite' vase has been recreated from a pair of original vases by Edwin William Godwin (1833-1886) displayed in V&A exhibition 'The Cult of Beauty: the Aesthetic Movement 1860-1900'.

Each vase is made from red earthenware with cream slipover, the Japanese inspired designs have been applied using the ''sgraffito' technique, in homage to Godwin's original works.

Created in a limited edition of 20.

Decorator's signature, number, company name, date and throwers mark can all be found on the base of each piece.Made in Britain.
