    This screen print celebrates the tradition of the Pearly Kings and Queens of London that are associated with charitable fundraising and the markets of London having originated from the market street traders. They imitated the pearl- wearers of the west-end by sewing rows of pearl buttons over their outfits creating the buttoned uniform that is now synonymous with the image of the London pearlies.
    
    Alice Pattullo is an illustrator and printmaker who works predominantly with screen printing, producing limited edition prints for sale at various outlets across the UK as well as working on commissioned illustrations. Research is at the heart of her practice and much of her work is inspired by British folk tradition and superstition and strives to simulate a nostalgic aesthetic through colour choices and composition.
