      • Product Description: In Spectres Judith Clark addresses the relationship of contemporary fashion to history, creating a collage of visual references which offer a fascinating insight into the origins of themes current among contemporary designers such as alienation, trauma, and phantasmagoria. Images from cutting edge fashion figures such as designers Alexander McQueen, Viktor and Rolf and celebrated make-up artist Pat McGrath, are juxtaposed with details of historical dress from both the V&A and MoMu permanent collections, to produce a book that is both groundbreaking and stylish. The book includes a coda by fashion historian Caroline Evans (author of Fashion at the Edge) from whom Clark has drawn assumptions about contemporary dress. Also reproduced are dramatic designs of a giant shadow lantern, commissioned by Clark from the celebrated New York fashion illustrator Ruben Toledo. Judith Clark is a V&A/London College of Fashion Fellow in the V&A's research department. She previously ran her own gallery in London curating many innovative fashion exhibitions. She also contributed to Radical Fashion (V&A Publications 2001).
